##Here are a few things to check if you can't get sound
- **Is everything on?** Although this seems obvious, it is very common. Always, this is the first thing that I check.
[cnmat:node/3147|This page] describes proper power-up procedures.
- **Is it plugged in?** I would like to make a t-shirt that says this. This shouldn't be as much of a problem in the Rear Studio as in other places, since most things stay connected. But, if you are using any extra gear, make sure its plugged in.
- **Is there a misconfiguration in the mixer?** It is very easy to get lost in this mixer. [cnmat:node/3233|Detailed mixer instructions are here.]
1. Start by loading the [cnmat:node/3233|Basic mixer project].
2. Proceed to select the Layer and Channel you are auditioning.
3. Check to see if that channel is mapped to the appropriate monitor, and that the gain is up.
4. If you are auditioning through the HD-1's, check to make sure their level is up.
- **Are you using the Genelecs?** If the HD-1's work, but the Genelecs don't work, maybe the bus outs are turned down. Go to the Buss layer and set the busses to 0 db.
The next debugging step depends whether the source you are trying to monitor is analog (like a microphone) or digital (like the ProTools System)
- **Analog: Check the controls at the top of the mixer.**
1. Check the TRIM knob for the channel you are trying to audition. For the line inputs, I have found that setting them around 9 o'clock is good. The mics are more variable, but 1-2 o'clock is my setting for the earthworks omnis in the main room.
2. Check the source switch, above the trim knob. Line in should be all the way to the right. Mic in is probably all the way left. The middle position is also Mic in, with a 20dB pad.
3. If you are using mics that require phantom power, make sure that that is turned on.
- **Digital: Is there a problem with digital sync?** All of the digital devices in the studio normally take their master clock from the mixer. Digital sync problems can manifest themselves as anything from subtle clicks, to loud noise, to complete silenct. Check the device or software you are using:
