CNMAT has its own Class C network (a block of 255 public IP addresses), commonly referred to as "CNMAT Local". Many network resources can only be accessed from within this network. CNMAT's network is a subset of the UC Berkeley campus network, and many campus network resources can only be accessed from within this large network, or via the UCB Library proxy. The following connectivity mechanisms are available with our building:

  • AirBears: AirBears is run by UC Berkeley IST and requires a CalNet ID and password to login. It is configured as an open network, and the login page will appear in your web browser when you request any page for the first time. Network client configuration is provided automatically by DHCP. The AirBears wireless signal is strong and gets excellent reception throughout the building. Connection on this network does not give you access to the CNMAT Local network
  • Static IP Address via Wired Ethernet: This gives you direct access to the CNMAT Local network at fully switched gigabit speeds, and is therefore preferable for accessing file servers with large media repositories. There are multiple RJ45 ports in every room, most of which work -- look for a small white box mounted on the wall. Network configuration is entirely manual -- see below for configuration instructions. You are required to only use the static IP addresse(s) assigned to you and these addresses are reallocated when you no longer access CNMAT facilities.
