The mixer connects numerous analog signals including to breakout boxes and microphones in the main room. It has a sample-synchronous digital interface with the ADAT, Digidesign, and Motu interfaces up to 96 khz.

**Getting Started**

The mixer is powered on by switch #1 on the power rack. According to studio protocol the mixer should be "zeroed" when you power it on. [cnmat:node/3147|See the instructions regarding the proper shutdown sequence.]

**Mixer How-tos**

- *Zeroing and Shutting Down the Mixer*

Before you switch off the mixer and close your session in the studio you must reset any significant changes made to the configuration. With respect to the mixer, this is easily accomplished by resetting the manual controls at the top of the mixer, reloading the Basic profile, and running the mixer's shutdown function:

0. Turn off PHANTOM power at the top of the mixer
0.5 make sure that Channels 1-8 are set to LINE in, and 9-16 are set to MIC.
1. Load the Basic profile (see below)
2. Initiate the shutdown procedure by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + ALT (requires two hands)
3. Confirm any warning dialogs (typically requires you to press ENTER one or more times)

- *Load the Basic project* See [http://cnmat.berkeley.edu/system/files/attachments/Resetting+DM-3200+Mix...|here] for a video explanation of this process.

1. Press ALT + PROJECT (This key combination is also mapped to the "USER 3" button)
2. Go to the MANAGE PRJ. page by pressing button #2 (the second button from the left), under the screen. [inline-center:manage_prj.png=The manage project screen]
3. Turn knob #4 to select the project named "Basic"
There are other versions of "Basic" at different sampling rates, that can be used for projects at higher rates.
3. Button #4, appears as "Load" in the corresponding interface column
4. Confirm to discard current unsaved changes to mixer state -> Yes, by pressing Enter
Now the project is loaded.

_NB: The physical knobs and switches at the top of the mixer are not part of the project system. The trims and line/mic switches always need to be adjusted manually._

- *Select a channel*

1. Chose the desired Layer, if necessary, using the LAYER STATUS buttons
2. Touch the channel fader to activate. Many parameters can be refined on the channel if desired.
3. Alternately, touch the SEL button directly above the fader. When a channel is selected, that button will be illuminated green, o therwise it is grey.
4. The screen of the mixer always shows the selected channel in the upper left corner. This is a good way to double check that you've selected the channel you think you have.

- *Map a channel to a monitor*

1. Select the channel(s) you wish to modify by touching the fader.
A green button lights up in each "selected" channel.
A red indicator lights next to each output channel that the channel is mapped to.
2. Toggle the outputs as desired;
Currently there are two basic monitoring configurations;
- The HD-1 monitors as a stereo pair, with panning
- The Genelec surround system as direct busses: surround-panning in the mixer is not enabled in the Basic Project.

- *Master gains for the HD-1's*

1. The overall gain for the HD-1's is controlled by the rightmost fader, Labeled (HD1s)
2. There is also a gain control knob at the top of the mixer, near the headphone jack. I find this knob wants to live around 12 o'clock.

- *Metering*

There are a few ways to visually monitor the inputs and outputs of the Mixer.

1. The *OL/STATUS* lights, right above each fader, will blink red if that channel is clipping. You want to avoid that.
2. Pressing the METER/FADER button (button 3 on the Screen Mode/Numeric Entry pad) gets you to a set of screens where you can monitor the levels. [inline-center:meters.png=The meter screen]
3. You can open the TMCompanion application on the computer, which has a meter window. If that window isn't open, select it from the Window menu.

- *Changing sample rate*

For working at 48kHz, there is a saved Project that can be opened to switch the sample rate for you. Access it by hitting the "User 3 (projects)" button close to the Jog/Data wheel, then the Manage Projects button (2nd from left under LCD display). Use the 4th rotary encoder to select "Basic 48k", then hit the 4th (rightmost) grey button under the display to load the project.

Since the 2408 doesn't run above 48kHz, you're on your own if you want to work at higher sample rates...
